Rightmove takes 83% of portals' market share

Rightmove has had another record-breaking month of traffic – with more page views than all its rivals put together.

According to independent traffic auditor Experian Hitwise, a record 58.37% of all web pages viewed within the property industry were on Rightmove in March.

Experian Hitwise count 1,325 property industry websites, and Rightmove’s lead means that more pages are viewed on its site than on all the other property websites put together.

Rightmove also broke previous records for market share of visits, with over six times more than second-placed FindaProperty.

Rightmove director Miles Shipside said: “This record-breaking traffic shows that when UK consumers think property, they think Rightmove.

“This is backed up by the fact that ‘Rightmove’ remains a more popular Google search term than the word ‘property’ itself.

“Our page view statistics show that when people visit us they are highly engaged in terms of using the site, and our market share of page views amongst the top four property websites has risen again this month to now stand at 83.1%.”

Rightmove’s strong traffic in March meant it was able to cement its place in the top ten most used websites overall for UK consumers, ending March in ninth place behind the likes of Facebook, Google and YouTube.

The second highest property-related website for page views was Zoopla in 110th position, a drop from 98th place in January.

Rightmove is about to start a new TV advertising campaign. It will apparently highlight the various ways the public use the web and mobile applications to search for properties.

The ad is due to appear on TV screens later this month.
