Scotland top for seaside performance
The Scottish town of Girvan is the best performing seaside town in terms of house price growth over the past year, new figures have revealed.
According to the Halifax annual seaside town review, house prices in Girvan in Ayrshire have risen by 41 per cent over the past 12 months to £131,512, with the next best town (Arbroath) recording a gain of 30 per cent.
Overall six of the top ten performing towns were in Scotland.
The fortune of seaside towns across the country has been good over the past 12 months, with 41 out of 117 experiencing an increase of at least ten per cent since last year.
Commenting on the results, Halifax Estate Agents managing director Colin Kemp, said: "Seaside towns have generally seen firm house price performance over the past year.
"They attract buyers looking for a lifestyle change, along with second home buyers and buy to let investors," he added.
Mr Kemp also emphasised that while it is now the case that manyseaside towns trade at a premium, there are still opportunities for property investors in several areas across Britain.
England's best performing town was St Mawes in Cornwall, with a 26 per cent rise.
