Female doctors are the most desired tenants among UK landlords, a survey has found.
Research by Halifax Landlord Insurance suggested that buy-to-let mortgage holders would most like to have a female doctor aged between 35 and 46 as a tenant in their rented accommodation when they enlist the services of letting agents.
Some 77 per cent of landlords prefer female tenants and 24 per cent would most like a GP to stay in their rented accommodation, the poll of 1,000 landlords found.
Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager for Halifax Landlord Insurance, commented: "The research shows how particular landlords are about the types of people they rent to and highlights how much they care about their property."
His comments suggest that property management is a priority among landlords - many of whom could be cash-strapped as a result of the economic downturn.
In November the National Landlords Association warned that winter repair bills could "soar" during the winter period and advised landlords to offer advice to tenants on how to cope with problems such as burst pipes or power cuts.
