More British homes are being flooded because of pipes bursting amid the current cold weather.
AA Home Insurance has reported a 50 per cent increase in insurance claims for water breaches in homes this month.
The claims have totalled more than £15 million nationwide, because of the damage to properties caused by burst pipes and escaping water.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "The cold snap is a reminder that burst pipes can cause serious water damage to both buildings and contents such as carpets and furniture."
The figures could prompt landlords to step up their property management in the current climate - perhaps by enlisting the services of letting agents.
In November, the National Landlords Association warned rental property owners that winter repair bills were "set to soar" as weather forecasts predicted cold weather to hit the UK over the festive period and early in the new year.
Letting agents and landlords could try to reduce the likelihood of costly property damage caused by cold weather by investing in property management software to assist them with precautionary measures.
