Furnished lettings properties, as opposed to homes without furniture, are more popular among tenants in the current economic climate.
That is the view of Carl Mimmack, who works for Birmingham-based letting agent Accord Lets and believes the furniture decision is an important property management consideration.
He said that decreased job security makes buying items to furnish property less feasible.
However, landlords apparently have other issues to consider when it comes to the debate about whether to include furniture in their homes.
"Landlords who offer their property unfurnished may also reap the benefits of being able to deduct a percentage of the cost from their tax liability," Mr Mimmack advised.
According to the property industry worker, letting agents often look for the middle ground by providing part-furnished homes, as this offers would-be tenants an element of flexibility.
With more and more so-called reluctant landlords joining the market in recent months, the Association of Residential Letting Agents has called on the government to ensure that new rental providers are closely monitored.
