Letting agents and landlords could benefit from advice given to tenants by mydeposits.co.uk ahead of the festive period.
The government tenancy deposit scheme has warned renters that parties held over the Christmas and the new year could lead to disputes with their rental accommodation owners.
Some 38 per cent of deposit disputes relate to cleaning costs, according to the agency.
However, in advice which letting agents and landlords might consider as part of their own property management, mydeposits.co.uk advised tenants which are hosting parties to take precautionary steps, such as asking guests to smoke outside.
Moving precious objects out of rooms and asking guests to leave shoes at the front door were further measures recommended by the scheme.
"Tenants who prepare by taking simple steps to protect the properties they rent will avoid costly accidents and ensure that the festive period passes without incident," commented David Salusbury, chairman of mydeposits.co.uk.
