TDS hopes to educate letting agents

News Category: Legal

This article was brought to you by Rentman the premium property management system.

A new outreach manager appointed by the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) will work to improve letting agents' understanding of how the body operates.

Helen McCarthy, who was trained by Association of Residential Lettings Agents (Arla) co-founder Neville Lee in a previous job, will take on the role next month.

She hopes to provide letting agents among the TDS' membership with more information about how its service works.

"I am looking forward to meeting member agents and helping them to use the systems to their best advantage," she said.

"This will help to cut costs and keep their subscription levels down," Ms McCarthy added.

The outreach manager will also obtain regular feedback from letting agents about problems they have encountered, with the aim of improving the TDS' service.

Landlords and letting agents have been required to place deposits in a government-approved tenancy deposit scheme since April 2007.

From April 6th 2009, the TDS is limiting insurance protection to deposits held by letting agents which are affiliated to a professional body, such as Arla.
