The market for residential lettings for students is in a stable condition, figures from Unite reveal.

According to the student lettings specialist's chief financial officer, Joe Lister, the performance of its student accommodation fund demonstrates the sector's "ongoing resilience".

He said that residential property for students had seen "strong relative performance" compared to the rest of the property market.

This has been "based on its ability to generate consistent rental growth in the face of challenging broader economic conditions," Mr Lister claims.

Estimated net value of its fund rose by 5.1 per cent at the end of last month compared to April.

Figures also show that bed space reservations received as of June 30th have risen by 13 per cent this year compared to 2007.

Recent research by propertyfinder.com revealed that university towns were the favoured property hotspots for purchases throughout June.

Of the top 20 most searched areas, 16 were university towns, the poll revealed.
