Landlords hoping to rent their properties out to students through a letting agent have been given advice about how to decorate their homes.
A survey by Accommodationforstudents.com found that a quarter of young people living away from home would be put off renting a property during their time at university if they did not like the way it was decorated.
The poll of more than 1,000 students also found that cost of rent is a very important factor for many students, because money is traditionally in short supply for those taking university degrees.
Simon Thompson, managing director of the website, said landlords should therefore choose to paint the walls in their properties rather than wallpaper them, adding that a neutral decor would be best.
He said: "To let their properties efficiently year after year, landlords must keep up with student demand, which will help those who are looking to expand their property portfolios."
LSL Property Services recently stated that landlords are receiving close to an all-time high amount of rent for their properties.
