MPs in the Scottish parliament should draw on the experience of the rest of the UK when deciding on whether to back Tenancy Deposit Protection, it has been suggested.
The announcement from the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (Arla) comes ahead of a debate of the motion that will make deposit protection mandatory tonight, June 18th.
However, Arla's head of operations, Ian Potter has urged MPs not to try and "re-invent the wheel".
He said: "There is now a very high degree of experience in Britain that can be utilised for deposit protection across Scotland.
"It would be exceedingly misleading for tenants to believe that their deposits are protected under the current regime."
Arla remains concerned about reports that would link deposit protection directly to landlord registration, despite the complex and sophisticated software developed across the rest of the UK.
