Rents to 'remain firm' for letting agents

The amount of money received by letting agents and landlords is to "remain firm", with growth in certain areas.

According to online community LandlordZONE.co.uk, many landlords have withdrawn from the market as they have realised renting homes is not a "trouble-free road to riches".

Tom Entwistle, director at the site, explained that demand in some regions is "steady" and that the recession could result in some rises in the amount of rent received.

He said: "Rents should remain firm and could grow steadily in the more prosperous areas - London and the south-east being the most likely."

Mr Entwistle was speaking after research from FindaProperty.com found that rents rose throughout March.

The average amount of rent paid to a letting agent or a landlord was £820 a month in March, compared to £814 in February.

However, the average rent is 0.8 per cent lower than a year ago, when the amount stood at £827 a month.
