Residential letters have been reminded that addressing mould problems in their rented homes is an essential part of their property management commitments.
Property services provider SitexOrbis has warned landlords that the presence of mould in a home is not an issue that can be ignored, as it can damage fittings and make a property look unpleasant.
Moreover, mould is considered a category one health risk according to the Housing Health and Safety Rating System, as spores from fungal growths can cause respiratory illnesses for tenants.
As such, the firm cautioned against attempting to paint over or brush away mould, as this will not remove the infestation at its root.
Instead, landlords are advised to invest in professional mould eradication services in order to ensure that any potentially dangerous growths are entirely destroyed.
This comes after cleaning services company ServiceMaster earlier this week reminded property letters that keeping a home clean and well-maintained can improve its rental prospects.
