Landlords need to use a regulated letting agent when establishing themselves in the buy-to-let sector.
This is according to spokesman for the Tenancy Deposit Scheme Malcolm Harrison, who explained how the company should be verified under ARLA or RICs.
He claimed this will ensure they have "client money protection, will be up to speed with best professional practices and will automatically register a tenancy with the tenancy deposit scheme".
Mr Harrison commented that in particular, first-time landlords can benefit from using a good agent, "because they will [know their] way round the systems".
It was noted that ensuring all details are followed and completed carefully is one of the most important ways to gain a trusted reputation and establish successful tenancies.
The news comes after landlords in Wales were recently reminded that from the beginning of December rental agreements with an annual value of up to £100,000 need to be registered with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme.
