Property portal improves mobile app

Rightmove.co.uk has announced an upgrade to its popular iPhone app, which allows over 1.2 million properties for buying or renting to be viewed online.

Both estate and letting agencies are likely to benefit from the improved version. With the original software pulling in around 1.4 million downloads since it was launched in August 2009, the upgraded app is likely to continue the trend.

Miles Shipman, director of Rightmove, said this popularity prompted the company to consider upgrading its property software and expanding its app "onto other mobile platforms". Now, 15 per cent of property searches are done using mobile devices.

"The app will also feature advertising opportunities for agents to increase the exposure of their brand and properties to a mobile audience," he said, adding that the app also introduced Rightmove user account synching and even zoomable floorplans.

Research from comScore MobiLens indicates that the number of people using online mobile phone software to view properties has risen by 63 per cent over the last 12 months alone.
