Professional tenants are 'cream of the crop'

Professional tenants are ideal for landlords renting properties.

That is the assessment of Chris Horne, the editor of Property Hawk, who noted that the steady incomes made them particularly attractive tenants.

New research from the Mortgage Trust (cited by IFAOnline.co.uk), indicates that more than a quarter of landlords are targeting corporate tenants, and it is easy to see why.

"I suppose it's the fact that professional tenants have got steady incomes, and generally have higher wages than non-professional tenants," said Mr Horne.

"It's just the regularity of income, I suppose, that would mean that they're ideal as tenants - it assures landlords that they're going to keep on getting their rent."

He added that they often demand extras such as broadband connections, but that landlords could often charge a premium rent because of this.

"With professional tenants, they tend to be able to pay a little bit more rent, and they're often looking for slightly better accommodation," Mr Horne continued. "Effectively they're the cream of the crop in terms of what a landlord's looking for."
