For those people struggling to access London's increasingly difficult property market, private rented accommodation represents a "flexible" option.
That is according to Jill Dwyer, communications and media officer for the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), who said that the lack of affordable housing was the "biggest issue" in the capital.
She noted that affordability was the key to solving problems in the housing market, adding that people needed to no longer consider that it was "wrong to rent".
Ms Dwyer commented: "A healthy private rented market is also important and can offer a flexible option for many people who do not have access to social rented housing and do not want to or cannot afford to become homeowners.
"What matters is affordability and choice and a home that meets individuals' and families' circumstances. We need to move awayfrom the mind-set that it is right to buy and wrong to rent."
