Poetry in motion? It fails to move us!

We do hope that London agents Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward did not pay former poet laureate Andrew Motion too much for his contribution to their magazine, Completely London.
Motion, who recently bought a house (presumably through KFH), was commissioned to write a few lines.
The first verse, which makes reference to his girlfriend who was born in South Korea and then lived in America, runs as follows:
“You had already left two
different countries
before settling with me
eventually on London
in the new house we are making
for one another
and the garden we will watch
grow together.”
In the spirit of the child who spotted that the Emperor wasn’t wearing any clothes, EAT would like to point out that this really is twaddle.
It doesn’t scan, it doesn’t rhyme, it’s boring, extremely pretentious and can’t have taken too long to put together.
In fact, we think that many of our regular bloggers could do a lot better. Fancy a challenge, anyone?
