Large numbers of pet owners are struggling to find rented accommodation, animal charity the Dogs Trust has stated.
It surveyed 5,695 Britons who possess household creatures and found that one in three had drawn a blank when looking for a tenancy.
House hunters who do not have a pet in tow take 50 days on average to secure a rented home, but more than half of the survey respondents said it had taken them between two months and over a year to find a landlord or letting agent that allowed animals.
The Dogs Trust set up its Lets with Pets initiative in 2009, which is aimed at helping animal lovers get a tenancy without giving up their beloved furry friends.
"We have signed up over 100 lettings agencies across the UK as campaign supporters, but our research shows that the majority are still not giving pet owners the chance they deserve," commented Clare Kivlehan, who runs the Lets with Pets scheme.
Pet owners could be finding it particularly tough to find rented accommodation at the moment, as ARLA recently suggested that demand for homes is outstripping supply.
