Perfect rental home revealed

The typical Brit would opt to live in a detached, new build property, new research reveals.

Data gathered Halifax has shown what people in the UK consider to be their dream home and landlords could use this information to make sure their rental properties are highly desirable.

The research showed that 50 per cent of people prefer to live in a detached house and that 22 per cent expressed a preference for a new build.

In addition, 30 per cent of consumers said they would rather live in the countryside.

Specifically, landlords should look to offer rental properties with three bedrooms, a lounge, a conservatory, a playroom, a family bathroom and toilet as these are things people want in their home.

Finally, landlords could consider investing in environmentally friendly measures as these were also found to be desirable for consumers. For example, 56 per cent said that they would like a home with energy and fuel saving measures.

"Although many of us live in towns or cities, there is no disputing that a house in the country is what the majority of us aspire to," explained Phil Jenks, head of mortgages at Halifax.

"The preference for new build detached properties shows that people want their home to be personal to them and that space and privacy is also important."

Recently, Arla revealed that demand for rented properties seriously outstripped supply in the three months to the end of May.ADNFCR-1064-ID-18258784-ADNFCR
