Renting should not be viewed as just a fall back plan for those unable to buy a home in the current economic climate.
That is according to the NLA, which asserted that choosing to rent is not a "second-best" option after purchasing a property, branding this perception a "myth".
Although the tightening of mortgage lending criteria is undoubtedly keeping many prospective buyers off the housing ladder, the organisation noted that there are a range of reasons behind people opting for rented accommodation.
Commenting on a recent report into rented housing supply, David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, asserted that landlords often enjoy good relations with their tenants.
He commented: "According to government figures, 81 per cent of tenants are on good terms with their landlords and it is good to see that the significant contribution landlords make to the housing mix has once more been acknowledged."
