The Royal Birkdale Open golf tournament delivered rental income of over £1.5 million for the town's inhabitants through short term lets, new figures from the tournament's official lettings agents shows.
Ball & Percival said the total was generated through letting over 250 people for rents pegged at between £1,500 and £25,000.
Demand for accommodation had been driven principally by overseas media companies, such as giants ESPN and Turner, and Japans TV Asahi as well as the BBC.
Ball & Percival lettings advisor Steph McNab told the Southport Visiter: "Birkdale is such an established and prosperous area, and with its strong transport infrastructure, and two airports nearby, there was a really high demand for lettings.
"We are thoroughly pleased with how everything went and we have not received any major complaints from homeowners or guests."
The last time the tournament was held in Southport in 1998, the total rental income stood at £875,000.
