No tenant demand for environmental rental properties

While landlords would respond to market pressures forcing more of an environmental focus on property, the demand from tenants is not yet there.
Richard Gard, public affairs officer at the NLA, said that most tenants were still more concerned about issues such as location and cost, rather than what environmentally-friendly features a property possessed.
He explained: "[Tenants] do want to know about bills, and that is where energy efficiency improvements can come in and help, but our members are starting to show an interest. We are starting to see that our members are much more clued up.
"Our stance has always been that if the market drives energy efficiency improvements, then that is something that we fully embrace.
"If tenants are going to our members and saying that before they move in to a certain property they want energy efficiency, for example, then that is what our members will respond to. And that is a good thing because the market is driving the improvement."
Recently, Julian Brooks, the managing director of GreenMoves, said that the introduction of Home Information Packs (Hips) could help focus landlords' attention on green issues.
