NLA welcomes regulation changes

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has stated that it agrees with the government's decision to change some of the regulations which govern the private rented sector.

The coalition announced earlier this week it is bringing an end to the blanket regulation which forces landlords to apply for planning permission when they rent homes to people who are unrelated.

David Salusbury, the chairman of the NLA, explained that the organisation is pleased with the government's decisions regarding houses of multiple occupation.

"The current rules, rushed through before the general election, are draconian and have threatened to drive good landlords away from the rental sector because of increased costs and red tape," he said.

Mr Salusbury added that he hopes the decision marks the start of a new engagement between landlords and local authorities.

Earlier this week, the NLA called for local councils to impose greater punishments on rogue landlords who bring the sector's reputation into disrepute.
