The development of a guide to fire legislation compliance for landlords has been welcomed by the National Landlords Association (NLA).
According to official statistics, some 300 deaths annually are caused by residential property fires a statistic that has prompted the drafting of new legislation to shore up safety standards.
The Local Authority Coordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS) in conjunction with the Chief Fire Officers' Association (CFOA) and other safety bodies have collaborated on a document which seeks to make the legal terms accessible and simply set out what landlords must do to meet their requirements.
David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, said: "With so much potentially confusing fire safety legislation now in force, this new LACORS guidance creates a single document setting out landlords' obligations.
"Many landlords want to know what they need to install because they are following good practice and want to avoid the need for enforcement. Although the guidance will not remove the need for enforcement at times, landlords can now find out what they need to do to comply with the law."
