The National Landlords Association (NLA) is warning landlords of the need to be wary of information gleaned online and to seek out more official sources.

According to the NLA the pace of regulatory change in the lettings sector in recent years has meant that confusion and misinformation is rife, especially when unverifiable online information sources are concerned.

The body said that the consequences of acting upon this data could prove ruinous for landlords if it is incorrect and urged the UK's landlords to be more circumspect.

David Salusbury, chairman of the organisation, said: "As we mark this important milestone, landlords must remember that not everything they read online can be trusted. With so many rule changes and complicated detail, the right information is critical.

"Why take the risk by simply using a search engine when, with the NLA, the correct material can be right at hand?"

The NLA is celebrating its 35 birthday this year.
