Landlords are set to benefit from a new service intended to make securing an energy performance certificate easier.

The National Landlords Association (NLA) EPC service will provide landlords with a certificate for £69, with applicants able to chart the progress of the application online.

The association also offers landlords a client support team to assist them with any enquiries they might have about energy efficiency, mortgagesolutions.com reports.

David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, said: "Although it is certainly true that we would have preferred the market to have led this movement towards more energy efficient homes, the NLA, as always, is seeking to make it as easy as possible for landlords to comply with the new rules."

Landlords and lettings agents who do not comply with the new rules face cash fines and could also be forbidden from marketing their property for a short time.

The law stipulates that all landlords must present prospective tenants with an EPC as of October this year.
