The NLA has joined the board of directors of the National Approved Letting Scheme (NALS).
Both organisations said that the move would help with attempts to improve best practice within the private rented sector.
Other organisations already on the NALS board of directors include representatives from Communities and Local Government, the National Association of Estate Agents and Rics.
The NALS is an accreditation scheme for lettings and management agents. It offers both landlords and tenants peace of mind as they know they are dealing with a firm which agrees to meet defined standards of customer service.
NLA chairman David Salusbury said the scheme was very important.
"The industry is going through a period of extreme change and the invitation to join the board at NALS makes perfect strategic sense," he explained.
NALS chair Caroline Pickering added: "It is vitally important to us that the consumer is protected in the private rented sector whether letting or renting and in enlarging the expertise on our board we can increase the scope and reach of NALS to the benefit of all."
Recently, the NLA said that it was happy with the uptake of tenancy deposit protection (TDP) among landlords.
