The National Approved Letting Scheme (NALS) is working to set new standards in place for the lettings agency.
In news which could interest landlords looking to stay legally compliant through letting agency software, the NALS has revealed that it has discussed policy proposals with Ian Wright MP, the housing minister responsible for the private-rented sector.
The NALS said that as an independent forum, it will be effective in setting the right standards in place for the mandatory licensing of lettings agents - a move which enjoys unanimous support from within the industry.
Caroline Pickering, chair of the NALS, said the forum is the "obvious choice" to fulfill the recommendations of the Rugg Report in this way.
"It's exactly what NALS was set up to achieve and we have the infrastructure, the independence and ability to deliver," she said.
The National Landlords Association described last month's Rugg Report, which reviewed the private-rented sector, as an "important watershed" and a move towards evidence-based recommendations that acknowledge the role of small landlords in the housing market.
