Most people who squat in empty houses do not object to paying landlords rent, according to one opinion.
A spokesman for the Advisory Service for Squatters stated that most people who choose to become squatters do not do so because they object morally to paying rent to landlords.
Speaking to Wales Online, he explained that squatters are now forced into staying in empty residences because of their circumstances.
"The increase in the number of squatters is mainly due to necessity," he said.
"People aren't exactly attracted to squatting, it's primarily down to the fact that they need somewhere to live."
The spokesman added that those who have objections to paying rent to landlords are in the minority.
Last week, the Residential Landlords Association pointed out that many landlords can find that they get caught out by complex legislation in the industry.
Alan Ward, chairman of the organisation, stated that the government must continue to cut legislation of the rental sector in order to make life easier for landlords.
