More women are becoming landlords

More and more women are opting to become landlords and invest in property, a new study suggests.

In fact, Bradford & Bingley's survey found that female landlords took a very hand-on approach to their property, with 42 per cent revealing that they would take on any renovation work needed when they expand their portfolio.

What's more, 26 per cent of female landlords said they expected to obtain new properties in the coming year.

Around a third (34 per cent) of female landlords said that they were under 30 when they purchased their first property and ten per cent revealed that they had already made more than £50,000 or more when they eventually sold some of their portfolio.

Fiona Curtin, buy-to-let expert at Bradford & Bingley, commented: "The last few years have seen a huge growth in the number of women investing in property."

The lender highlighted James Bond actress Fiona Fullerton, who also owns a property portfolio worth around £2 million, as the perfect example of the new generation of female landlords.

"Women are taking control by buying and renovating properties and are being hugely successful at it," the actress turned property magnate commented.

"Many women have a strong business sense and when combined with an innate ability to multitask and a key eye for design, it can often create a winning formula."
