More support has been lent to the Association of Residential Letting Agents' (Arla) new scheme to protect consumers from unprofessional letting firms.
Online landlord portal LandlordZONE has welcomed the initiative, which will call on all Arla-certified companies to abide by a strict code of practice.
The aim of the programme is to ensure all letting agents maintain the best possible standards during their work.
Director of LandlordZONE Tom Entwistle said: "Any attempt to raise standards is a good thing and will definitely help. However, there are still many letting agents who are not members of any of the main professional associations."
In a message to consumers, he added that people should always try to seek out the agents that are affiliated with the relevant national bodies for the industry, such as Arla and the National Association of Estate Agents.
Housing minister Iain Wright backed the new letting legislation scheme earlier this week.
