New residential lettings could be set to appear at the Thames Gateway, following new development proposals from Notting Hill Housing.
The company's plans for the 13-acre Newham site are part of its wider objective of delivering 4,000 homes over the next two years.
This may come as welcome news to letting agents, which are anticipating a high demand for rental accommodation across the UK, according to the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla).
Kate Davies, chief executive of Notting Hill Housing, sees a role for landlords in the new project.
She also told 24dash: "Notting Hill is looking for large sites in London where we can build thriving, mixed communities.
"The downturn in the market offers new opportunities for us to expand rapidly and build new homes for people in London."
Taylor Wimpey has been the latest home builder to reveal the extent of its money problems having failed to secure emergency cash of around £500 million to balance its books.
