A lettings agency has compiled a list of pointers new landlords should be aware of when renting out property.
Young's suggests that potential tenants should be requested to hand over three months' worth of bank statements to prove they have a regular salary, reports About Property.
The letting group indicates that this will also provide a landlord with information about whether or not they have previously paid their rent on time.
Further checks can be made too, according to Young's.
"Obtain an employers reference in writing and don't take it as read that the reference is current," the firm explains. "Google the company for the phone number (don't rely on being given it by the tenant) and call your prospective tenant's employer to confirm that the company exists."
Landlords can also contact the would-be tenant's ex-property management firm to research their renting history.
The advice comes as an increasing number of landlords have joined the lettings market as a result of property prices going down in the UK.
