Letting agents 'face prostitution problem'

News Category: Legal

This article was brought to you by Rentman the premium rent management software.

Letting agents have been warned to look out for signs that the properties they rent out could be used for prostitution.

A resident of a luxury apartment block in Glasgow complained to their letting agent after noticing more men were visiting the building.

Speaking to the Sunday Mail, they said: "We found a slip of paper with mobile phone numbers and a list of sex services lying on the landing."

The neighbours contacted Ronnie Murray, the boss of letting agent Principal Apartments, but said he ignored them.

Mr Murray has now taken action, with the occupiers of the flat asked to leave and the police informed.

He said: "I was genuinely surprised that prostitution is so prevalent."

Mr Murray added that letting agents must be aware that the possibility of their properties being used for prostitution is a problem.

Last month, the Irish Times reported that a letting agent had helped to bring drug dealer Sean Callinan to justice after suspecting he was producing cocaine on the premises.
