Letting agents can help tenants save significant amounts of money on their household bills by taking a few simple measures to improve the efficiency of their property.
According to chief executive of the National Insulation Association Neil Marshall, uninsulated homes lose 60 per cent of their heat through the walls and roof.
He suggested that by adding cavity wall and loft proofing, renters can cut their energy consumption and save between £185 and £310 a year.
Mr Marshall added that insulation is currently very cheap, so the initial outlay of greenproofing an abode can be clawed back through reduced bills within one to three years.
"The savings are even greater for insulating solid walls and lofts [and are] now between £510 and £635 per year," he remarked.
This could prove to be a wise move for letting agents and landlords, as the six major energy companies in the UK - Scottish Power, npower, Scottish and Southern Energy, British Gas, EDF Energy and E.ON - have all announced sizeable hikes to gas and electricity rates in recent weeks.
