Letting agent 'will provide students with inventory'

Students have been advised to expect their letting agent to provide them with an inventory when they move into rented accommodation.

With the start of the academic year nearing, many students will be unsure of what to expect from renting a property from a landlord or letting agent.

Government-authorised tenancy deposit protection scheme mydeposits.co.uk has therefore compiled some tips for worried students, informing them that they should be aware a landlord has the right to check in on the property - although they are required to give notice.

It added that the inventory will be an important document for students to look after, in case disputes arise later on regarding any problems with the property.

"Keep this document safe as you will need it when the time comes to check out at the end of the tenancy," students were advised.

According to the government, students should also check with their local authority whether or not their landlord needs to obtain a House in Multiple Occupation licence.
