Letting agent tries to find homeless family a place to live

A Leicestershire letting agent is attempting to find a family which is about to become homeless somewhere to live.

Phil and Mel Hood and their children have been told they have four weeks to find a new home after their landlord failed to pay his mortgage, reports the Leicester Mercury.

The family believed they were covered should the landlord default on his payments.

However, this was not the case as the mortgage company had not been informed the landlord was letting the house, meaning their tenancy agreement was worthless.

A spokesman for the letting agent said: "We are trying to find the Hoods a suitable property."

Mrs Hood said she was grateful to the letting agent for their help.

The Hoods' situation comes in spite of the recent survey from the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) which found fewer landlords were struggling to make their mortgage payments.

According to the CML, 25 per cent fewer properties were repossessed in the final quarter of 2009.
