Letting agent: Demand may make people homeless

A letting agent has stated that increasing demand for rental property could lead to people effectively becoming homeless.

According to Martin & Co director Shaun Cafferty, there are not enough homes available in south Cheshire to meet the needs of the people searching for properties to rent.

Speaking to the Crewe Chronicle, he explained that his company has launched a summer drive to persuade more people to rent out houses.

"We have recently let several properties within minutes at both our offices in Nantwich and Crewe and we have a database full of people who want to move but can't find anything available," he said.

Mr Cafferty added that some investors are buying the wrong sort of properties, which has led to more problems in the letting sector.

He told anyone thinking of buying a home to let it out to first speak to a letting agent to get their advice.

Earlier this month, Tom Entwistle, director of LandlordZONE.co.uk, said investing in the buy-to-let market is currently a good idea. ADNFCR-1064-ID-800031264-ADNFCR
