Landlords have stated that they want the government to provide them with more information about cuts to housing benefits.
This is according to the National Landlords Association (NLA), which found in a poll that 90 per cent of landlords will think again about taking on a tenant who relies on money from the state if housing benefits are cut.
David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, stated that the organisation accepts the government needs to make cuts to public spending.
"The extent of the planned cuts could lead to serious reductions in the supply of affordable accommodation," he warned.
"Landlords are already struggling to deal with rental arrears and this will only worsen."
Mr Salusbury added that many landlords do not know what impact cuts to housing benefits will have on their rental income.
NLA spokesman Vincenzo Rampulla recently said the state needs to provide more education for landlords to ensure they are abiding by the rules and regulations of the private rented sector.
