Landlords 'unconcerned about energy efficiency'

Landlords are not considering upgrading their properties to make them more energy efficient, according to one industry expert.

Malcolm Harrison stated that there are not enough properties available for people who want to rent an energy efficient property.

He said: "The tremendous upsurge in demand for rental property at present means you can't pick and choose as much as you would want to be able to."

Mr Harrison added that it is currently a landlords market, stating that most property owners are able to let their houses out quite happily without carrying out energy efficient home improvements.

Making a house more energy efficient may not even have any effect on its rental value, Mr Harrison stated.

He was speaking after the Residential Landlords' Association stated that more and more tenants are now looking to move into an energy efficient property.

The Energy Saving Trust advises landlords to consider the installation of a condensing boiler to make their homes more energy efficient.
