The National Landlords Association (NLA) is to tell the Conservative Party conference that private-rented sector (PRS) property can be used by councils to house homeless and vulnerable people.
It is working alongside homeless charity Crisis to deliver the message, which will tell policymakers better use of the sector will allow them to offer a wider range of housing options to those in need of accommodation.
NLA chairman David Salusbury said: "This contribution not only outlines our vision for the private-rented sector but also makes clear that we expect councils to take seriously the need to develop PRS access schemes."
He is to speak at the New Directions for Renting event today (Wednesday 7th October 2009) and will tell the conference that the NLA is determined to shine a light on the small minority of landlords guilty of bad practice.
The NLA represents more than 17,000 landlords in the UK and has run a Government approved tenancy deposit protection scheme, mydeposits.co.uk, since 2007.
