Landlords across the UK are showing a renewed confidence in their industry, according to the results of a new survey.
Research carried out by Paragon showed that landlords have increased the number of properties they own and generally expect the value of their property portfolios to increase over the coming year.
The study also found that around one-third of landlords believe that tenant demand will increase in 2010, while almost 60 per cent think it is set to remain stable.
Nigel Terrington, Paragon Group chief executive, said that tenant demand was likely to remain strong due to a number of factors.
"It is unlikely that the mainstream mortgage market will recover for a number of years and vast sectors of the population, such as first-time buyers and people with impaired credit history, continue to be excluded from the market," he explained.
Last week, the FindaProperty.com Rental Index revealed that properties were now being let after 58 days on the market, the shortest period since the beginning of 2009.
