Cuts in people's housing benefits could force many landlords to reduce their rents, experts have stated.
According to the National Landlords Association, owners of rental accommodation should look at their profit and loss before coming to any decisions about the amounts they charge.
Chris Norris, policy manager for the group, said this would help them determine the amount they could realistically cut their rents by to accommodate the benefit cuts, the Telegraph reports.
However, he stated that if they rule out this option, landlords would either have to sell their rental property or seek tenants who are not on housing benefits.
Meanwhile, the National Housing Federation has warned that the benefit cuts will hit single, childless claimants especially hard, as they will not be on any other form of income support.
The group described the reductions as "brutal" and warned they put more than 200,000 people in the UK at risk of becoming homeless.
