Landlords have good relationship with tenants, poll finds

The vast majority of tenants enjoy a good relationship with their landlord, a survey has found.

Research by the Deposit Protection Service (DPS) has suggested that the government-backed scheme which manages tenants' deposits has improved relations within the private rented sector.

The survey showed that 84 per cent of renters get on well with their landlords, with a quarter of this proportion describing their relationship as fantastic.

DPS director Kevin Firth said the results are not a surprise because, since the introduction of deposit protection legislation, only 880 cases out of 113,000 in the last 18 months were handled by the Alternative Dispute Resolution service.

Mr Firth advocated the use of research in the private rented sector, adding: "It's vital to ensure that you undertake good research to pick the right tenant or landlord in the first place - make sure you knowwho you're dealing with."

All private landlords and letting agents can use the DPS free of charge.
