More and more landlords are using the internet to find and arrange mortgages, an industry expert has said.
A spokesperson from Charcol explained that most homebuyers in the UK were still uncertain about completely arranging their mortgage online.
However, he added that landlords were far more likely to use the net to search for and complete their mortgage application.
"It's something that is much more for the experienced buyers out there. We find that a lot of buy-to-let buyers like to arrange their mortgages online because it an investment and it's all about keeping costs down," he explained.
"It's such a big commitment that you have to be pretty confident in your abilities to pick the right thing and know what you are doing."
However, the spokesperson also said that the internet had made life much easier for landlords, as it had "made mortgages a lot easier to deal with".
He concluded: "The better informed you are, the chances are you'll make a better decision."
Recently, Professor Willem Buiter, formerly of the Monetary Policy Committee, said that the US sub-prime lending crisis was likely to make mortgages in the UK more expensive.
