Landlords believe rental market is improving

Landlords are confident the rental market is showing signs of improvement, according to a new survey.

Research conducted by online letting agent Upad.co.uk found that 61 per cent of landlords believe the sector is improving.

According to the research, landlords are becoming more confident about the market because the supply of properties is no longer growing at the rates seen last year.

However, 39 per cent of landlords stated they are worried about government plans to regulate the buy-to-let sector.

A concern cited by landlords is that the government continues to pay housing benefits to people who do not necessarily use the money to cover their rent costs.

Upad.co.uk also stated that tenants are now looking to rent over a longer period of time, offering more stability to landlords and the rental sector.

The findings contradict Chris Norris, policy manager at the National Landlords Association, who recently told The Times that the rental market is "still very flat".
