Landlords are becoming more socially aware as a result of the recession, a media report has said.
In an article for the Times, journalist Rebecca O'Connor claimed that the stereotypical image of profit-hungry landlords was being changed.
"The new socially aware landlords see themselves as offering a customer service by providing affordable accommodation of a good standard for people who cannot afford to buy homes for themselves," she observed.
Industry experts told her that the industry had moved towards a more customer-focused approach and that understanding economic problems that may be facing tenants was now part of being a good landlord.
According to buy-to-let investor Steve Perron, working in the sector is a seven-days a week job when it is done properly.
Earlier this month, research by Paragon revealed that landlords are beginning to believe the market is showing signs of recovery.
Its survey revealed that around 30 per cent of landlords believe tenant demand will increase during the next year, while almost 60 per cent believe it will remain at current levels.
