A Birmingham landlord has claimed that one of his properties is set to be repossessed after falling victim to mortgage fraud.
Businessman Akhtar Mohammed became aware of the fraud when he visited the property and discovered a repossession order, which said he had built up £100,000 of debt.
Mr Mohammed claims that this has occurred due to fraudsters illegally obtaining the deeds from the Land Registry and using these to take out a mortgage on the property.
Zahid Mohammed, his brother, told the Sunday Mercury: "It's just unbelievable that this can happen. People need to be warned about this because it seems like once the crooks know what to do it is incredibly easy for them to forge the necessary documents and seize control of your home.
"I've heard of squatters but this seems amazing to me, how can somebody get away with this?"
The case is now under investigation by the local constabulary, with Mr Mohammad's legal representatives attempting to overturn the repossession order.
