A London landlord is facing a heavy fine after endangering his tenants by ignoring fire safety regulations.
Vispasp Sakari, of Ivanhoe Drive, Harrow, has been hit by a fine and costs of £10,000 after pleading guilty at Harrow Magistrates' Court.
Mr Sakari was prosecuted after a fire at the premises, in which no-one was hurt.
An investigation found that the fire alarm had been turned off and that the main exit was blocked.
Meanwhile, fire doors were in bad state of repair and fire extinguishers were overdue for testing.
Assistant commissioner for fire safety regulation for the council, Max Hood, told the Harrow Observer: "Landlords must take responsibility for fire safety very seriously within their properties.
"The breaches by the landlord in this case put his tenants' lives at risk and I thank the inspecting officers as well as our legal team fortheir hard work in bringing this prosecution to a successful conclusion."
Five people lived in the property, which meant that it was defined as a multiple occupation residency and compelled the landlord to comply with more stringent regulations.
