A landlord in Cardiff has been penalised because his rented property did not meet the correct fire standards.
Cardiff Magistrates Court handed Mohammed Ansar Miah a fine of £1,500 and ordered him to pay £120 costs to Cardiff Council.
Following a complaint made by a tenant about the condition of the house, Cardiff Council issued an improvements notice which was ignored by Mr Miah.
Judith Woodman, Cardiff Council's executive member for communities housing, said: "This result sends a very clear message to private landlords that offences of this kind will not be tolerated.
"Fire safety is an important issue and those who ignore housing legislation could be putting lives in danger.
"Cardiff Council will continue to carry out checks and visits to rented properties to ensure all landlords abide by the law."
Preston Magistrates Court recently fined a landlord £6,000 after a fire broke out at his flats last April, endangering the lives of six tenants.
